The 'on' button eventually stopped working ending the useful life of this product. This machine made decent coffee, and the carafe kept the coffee warm for a reasonable amount of time. I attempted to open the unit to see if the buttons could be cleaned out, but the manufacturer used great care in selecting a spanner screw to assemble the unit that requires a special tool to remove.Overall, I think this machine had a poor design and likely planned obsolescence. However, some of its design features were clunky and the machine ultimately quit working after any unreasonably short lifetime:-Top opening lid makes filling water and adding the coffee and filter awkward if you have cabinets above your counter top.-You have to put the lid on the carafe exactly right. Once you have it figured out, it isn't difficult, but there should not have to be a learning curve to operate it.-The front push buttons did not operate smoothly. Go ahead and buy if you are planning on replacing in 6 months. Based on other reviews, you may be lucky to have it last that long.
(he thought I had just made it because it was hot still). But still it was a great cup of coffee for a low price. So we have only used this once and I liked the coffee it made just fine, it was hot enough with cold creamer from the fridge even. I used to barista and the coffee came out great enough for me and it did keep it hot. And I am almost legally blind and needs a new RX. He then placed a bunch of coffee in his Starbucks coffee cup which is thermal too and drank it over an hr 1/2 then got more and liked it more. It will make my coffee even hotter then it was.
and so I think I will have this for many yrs to come unless the unit ever gets defective. I also old my husband and hr after making the coffee he could have coffee I just made. I also have had us break in 4 yrs 5 coffee pots (just the glass). We only used cold creamer and it was just fine for us. I also would suggest to place ho water in thermal container before had because I am going to do it from now on too. Also the clock is so bright I can see it 800 sq ft away easy. So yes its very readable.
It only makes one type of coffee: luke warm. On the plus side it is an attractive unit and has a nice bright red LED clock and timer, but what good is that if the coffee is no good. I've had this Black & Decker model DE790B for 4 months now and regret the purchase of it. Customer support is essentially non-existant as Black & Decker does not make this coffee maker, it is made for them by someone else. They are all made in China now. If you make a lot of coffee don't count on the stainless steel carafe keeping the coffee warm at all - you'll find yourself re-heating each cup in a microwave which I find alters the taste of the coffee. If you unscrew the top of the carafe to pour the coffee too far you end up with a big spilled mess - the markings on where to unscrew the carafe top to the exact place are too hard to see.
This is the last Black & Decker product I am going to buy. I too was drawn in by the very low price. Rather than send this one in to repair (I paid $30) I am going to get one of the higher rated Cuisinarts (Cuisinart DCC-1200). There is no plate warmer. Customer support says I "got a bad one" and they wanted me to pay return shipping ($25). They are not the same Black & Decker of old. I do not recommend this product.
This coffee maker quit working after 4 weeks of use. We called the service number and they want us to PAY shipping to send it back instead of issuing a RA number. I will never purchase another B & D appliance again. Worse customer service EVER.
Don't waste your money--this unit is garbage in my opinion. The auto-timer/clock display feature does not stay fully lit. I bought this coffee maker 3 months ago and suspect I will be replacing it soon. I've owned black and decker products before and have always been pleased with their quality and performance. Parts of the numbers keep disappearing as well as the indicator light for am and pm. Several mornings it failed to automatically start brewing. Apparently they can't make good coffee makers. Lesson learned.
